Craving a peaceful escape filled with art, nature, and a dash of history? I think you’ll find what you’re looking for in Snow Hill. When I first visited, I loved wandering the historic streets—there’s something timeless about them. If you enjoy paddling like I do, you’ll want to bring or rent a kayak and get out on the Pocomoke River. You can pop into the local galleries—I’ve found some truly charming pieces there—and treat yourself to fresh seafood that tastes like it came straight off the boat. Whether you’re chasing calm, creativity, or a bit of coastal magic, I can’t recommend Snow Hill enough.

Best Time to Visit

From my experience, spring (April–June) and fall (September–November) are perfect. You’ll love the weather—just right for kayaking or taking in the sights without breaking a sweat. I’ve stumbled onto farmers markets and art festivals that made my trip extra special, so try to time your visit when those are happening. You’ll be glad you did.

How to Get There

  • If you’re driving: I usually take U.S. Route 113—it’s a smooth ride. Snow Hill is only about 30 minutes from Ocean City, and if you’re coming from D.C., you’re looking at around 2.5 hours. Not bad for a weekend getaway.
  • Flying in? I suggest Salisbury–Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport (SBY). It’s just a half-hour away, and I’ve found the connections to be surprisingly convenient.
  • Public transport? Honestly, I wouldn’t rely on it. I’ve always driven, and I’d recommend you do too—gives you more freedom to explore nearby towns and nature spots.

Where to Stay

  • The River House Inn – I stayed here once and loved waking up to river views. The rooms are cozy, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll appreciate the peace and quiet.
  • The Cedars Bed & Breakfast – This place is full of character. I didn’t stay overnight, but I toured it and the decor was beautiful. You’ll feel the warm welcome as soon as you walk in.
  • Hampton Inn & Suites Fruitland-Salisbury South – If you’re looking for something familiar and just a short drive away, this is a solid option. I’ve used it as a base when exploring the Eastern Shore, and it’s worked out well.
