Located on South Market Street in historic Downtown Frederick, Mount Olive Cemetery is a famous cemetery that is home to several notable people, including Thomas Johnson, the first elected governor of the State of Maryland, the author of the National Anthem, Francis Scott Key, and one of the top female heroines of the American Civil War and author of Whittier's Poem, Barbara Fritchie. Established in 1854 and operated by the Mount Olivet Cemetery Company, Inc., the Cemetery is steeped in community pride and American patriotism and is considered one of the most beautiful and distinguished burial grounds in the country.
