Looking for a convenient suburban escape close to Baltimore with shopping, parks, and local eats? I say make your way to Owings Mills! I’ve always found it to be the perfect mix of calm and convenience. You get all the perks of a laid-back suburban vibe, but with super easy access to the city. Whether I’m looking to unwind in a quiet park, do a little shopping, or grab a great meal, Owings Mills hits the sweet spot every time. And if you're anything like me, you'll love how it feels like a getaway without being too far from the action.

Best Time to Visit

In my experience, the best time to visit Owings Mills is from late spring through early fall, between May and October. That’s when the weather is just right for walking trails, enjoying patios at local restaurants, or hopping into Baltimore for a quick day trip. I’ve spent sunny afternoons here that felt like mini vacations—even when I was just escaping the city for the weekend.

How to Get There

  • If you are traveling by car: I usually drive in from Baltimore, and it’s an easy 30-minute trip along I-795. If you're coming from D.C., it takes about an hour—perfect for a quick weekend getaway or a day trip.
  • By Train: I’ve used the Baltimore Metro SubwayLink more than once—it’s super convenient. You can hop on in downtown Baltimore and ride straight to Owings Mills Station. No need to deal with parking if you don't want to.
  • By Air: If you're flying in, Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) is your best bet. I’ve made the drive from the airport to Owings Mills in about 35 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic. Renting a car is easy too, which makes getting around stress-free.

Where to Stay

  • Hyatt Place Baltimore/Owings Mills – I stayed here once and really liked the modern vibe. You’ll be close to the shopping centers, and it’s great if you want to hop on the Metro without driving everywhere.
  • Hilton Garden Inn Owings Mills – This is my go-to when I’m traveling for work or bringing the family. It’s comfortable, has an indoor pool, and the on-site restaurant makes dinner easy after a long day of exploring.
  • Residence Inn Baltimore Owings Mills – If you're planning a longer stay or traveling with kids, I’d recommend this spot. The kitchenettes are a huge plus, and I always appreciate having a bit of extra space to spread out.
