Review:

Housed at the Samuel P. Grindle House and the 1859 Abbott School on Castine’s town common, the Castine Historical Society aims to provide both visitors and locals alike with a look at the interesting past of the village. Inside the Italianate-style, photogenic building and around town, the historical society offers historic reenactments, garden and house tours, lectures, summer exhibitions, and permanent exhibits. The collection of items at the Castine Historical Society include a variety of paintings, publications, books, research notes, maps, artifacts, documents, and photographs that provide an overview of the development and complicated history of Castine.
