Comprising over 600 acres of coastal uplands and protected salt marshes, the Bates-Morse Mountain Conversation Area extends all the way from the Sprague River to the Morse River. The conservation is home to a wealth of rare plant and bird species, including nesting sites of the endangered piping plover. The conservation area welcomes over 1000 school and college students each year for environmental studies. Fortunately, the conservation is also open to the public and offers a wonderful beach and hiking destination for nature lovers and birding enthusiasts. You are welcome to hike from dawn to dusk throughout the year – parking is available close by.
