2. Savor Tradition with a Sip at The Old Pogue Distillery
The Old Pogue Distillery boasts a history that dates back to the time following the American Civil War. The original Pogue distillery was established back in 1876 in Maysville near the site often referred to as the location of the first bourbon distillery in Kentucky. The family-owned and operated Old Pogue distillery claims to be the only distillery that produces bourbon today “where bourbon began its journey.” Set on a bluff in the Ohio River Valley, the distillery offers views of the Ohio River. Visitors can also take a tour of the Old Pogue Distillery and the historic Pogue family home.

3. Catch a Show at the Historic Washington Opera House
The Washington Opera House in the small city of Maysville, Kentucky is a historic theatre venue that dates back to February of 1885. This historic opera house opened on February 12th with a performance of Fatinitza presented by the Amy Gordon Opera Company, and the venue soon became a center of the community and culture.
The Maysville Players , the Commonwealth’s oldest theatre group, bought the Washington Opera House in 1968. Still producing exceptional performances, the opera house today is the fifth oldest theatre in the United States remaining in operation and is listed on the National Register of Historical Buildings.

4. Dine with a View at Caproni’s on the River
Caproni's on the River brings some of the best in American fare, Kentucky classics, and traditional Italian cuisine to the local community of Maysville. The restaurant takes an approach to its food that supports the local community of producers and growers, utilizes the freshest ingredients possible, and provides a memorable dining experience for guests. The founder of Caproni’s, Lea Caproni, brought a number of “secret recipes” from Barga, Italy to the banks of the scenic Ohio River. Her recipes are still used at Caproni’s on the River today, as well as preparing pasta “fresh to order,” to ensure quality, delicious dishes.
