Vatican City, the world’s smallest country is located just north of Rome’s city center and is home to the extraordinary Vatican Museums.

The vast group of Christian museums showcases a noteworthy collection of artworks that have been amassed by various popes throughout the centuries. This includes several of the most significant masterpieces of Renaissance, art and some of the most renowned Roman sculptures in the world.

All together there are 54 galleries, better known as sales, containing approximately 70,000 important works, of which 20,000 are displayed. The last stop on the museum route is none other than the Sistine Chapel, with its famous ceiling decorated by the legendary Michelangelo.
