Lagoon El Junco is actually a crater lake and not a lagoon like the name suggests, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is one of the most gorgeous places in San Cristobal Island. The crater itself was formed by the collapsed caldera of a volcano that has been extinct since the last-known ice age. Being on the highlands, it slowly fills with rainfall, making it one of the only freshwater sources on the island. Other than a panoramic view, visitors will also see flora and fauna that is popular in the area such as the endangered Galapagos miconia and the endemic San Cristóbal mockingbird.
