In Famagusta region, the Ayia Napa Monastery is a stunning structure named after the Virgin Mary of Napes, who is known as the Saint of the Woods. Although the exact date of the origin of the building is unknown, it has been around since the 15th century during the Venetian rule in Cyprus. Interesting to note is while other monasteries were destroyed during the Ottoman empire, Ayia Napa Monastery was spared. Restored in 1950, the building now serves as an Ecumenical Conference Center.
