Santorini’s village of Vothonas is located at the center of the island, just a few miles from the capitol, Fira.

Built into the edge of a steep gorge, the village is known for its unique architecture. Cave houses are carved into the volcanic rock forming a most unusual settlement. Visit the Church of Agios Roussos, a unique pumice-stone structure built on a rock. The 1827 Church of Agia Anna is the oldest in the village. The Church of Panagia Sergena is carved out of volcanic rock. Known as the “hidden church” it once served to protect residents from pirate invasions.

Also a cave experience, the Vothonas Wine Museum is located nearly 20 feet underground.
