Santorini’s Megalochori village is located on the southwest of the island and offers breathtaking views of both the ocean and the island’s interior caldera.

A range of architecture in the village includes 17th century cave homes with wooden doors, surrounded by high fences, originally built to protect residents from pirates.

The caves are interspersed among neoclassical homes and classic Cycladic architecture. Two churches in the center of town boast impressive steeples, while the chapel of Agios Nikolaos dramatically overlooks the caldera from the cliffs above. Megalochori is best known for its vineyards. Tour three main wineries, Antoniou, Boutaris, and Gavalas for a look at how the wines are made, history and tastings.
