Khamriin Khiid, located in the Gobi Desert, is a monastery complex that was built in the 19th century, and according to Mongolian Buddhists, it is located in the very center of all the spiritual energy in the world. Like many other monasteries in Mongolia, Khamriin Khiid was destroyed during the communist purge in 1937 but was rebuilt in 1990. Visitors to Khamriin Khiid can arrive at dawn with hundreds of worshippers and pilgrims for a taste of the spiritual energy that they believe is strongest at the birth of each new day, and experience the warmth of the Shambala at the center of the complex.
