Ogunquit is a trendy coastal tourist town, located within the Portland, Maine metropolitan statistical area. The town's name is a reference to the Abenaki indigenous word for "beautiful place by the sea," originally settled in 1641 as part of the nearby city of Wells.

Today, it has become a popular retirement village and LGBT tourist destination in New England. Views of the Atlantic Ocean are offered from Ogunquit Beach, while a 1.25-mile cliff walk at Marginal Way connects the beachfront to the town's downtown shopping and dining district.
