Open from Spring up until the beginning of Fall, the Madison Campground is a great option for parties who want to maximize great fishing while being able to explore several of Yellowstone’s attractions. Sitting at an elevation of 6,800 feet, the Madison Campground is a home base for guests exploring Old Faithful as well as the Lower, Upper, and Midway Geyser Basins. Thanks to its proximity to the Madison River, fishing is excellent in the area and the campground conveniently offers fishing licenses. Guests can also book and reserve tours of Yellowstone from the campground, while the National Park Service regularly runs ranger programs at the campground’s amphitheater.
