If you’re dreaming of tropical beaches, volcano adventures, and rich island culture, let me tell you, Hawai‘i has it all. Every time I visit, I find a new side of paradise, whether it’s hiking through lush rainforests, watching lava glow on the Big Island, or simply soaking in the aloha spirit over a plate of fresh poke. With its stunning landscapes, warm waters, and deeply rooted traditions, Hawai‘i has something for every kind of traveler. Whether you’re chasing waves, chasing waterfalls, or just chasing peace, I think you’ll find it here like I did.
Hawai‘i Highlights (by Island):
- O?ahu: Hike Diamond Head and surf Waikiki Beach – I’ve explored Pearl Harbor, shopped in Honolulu, and danced under city lights—you’ll love the energy and history packed into this island.
- Maui: Drive the Road to Hana – I’ve taken this drive more than once and still gasp at every waterfall and curve. It’s all about the journey here, not just the destination.
- Kaua?i: See the Na Pali Coast – I once took a helicopter ride over these cliffs and valleys—breathtaking doesn’t even begin to cover it. You can also hike or cruise if that’s more your pace.
- Big Island: Explore Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park – I watched molten lava glow at night and stargazed from the summit of Mauna Kea. It’s an island full of contrast and power—you’ll feel it the moment you land.
- Lana?i & Moloka?i: Escape to quiet, untouched Hawai‘i – When I needed true solitude and connection with nature, this is where I went. It’s slower, quieter, and deeply soulful.
Best Time to Visit Hawai‘i
From my trips, I’ve found the sweet spots to be spring (April–June) and fall (September–mid-November). You’ll get amazing weather, fewer crowds, and better prices. Summer is great for family fun (just be ready for busy beaches), and if you’re into surfing or whale watching, winter is when the magic happens on O?ahu’s North Shore and Maui’s coastlines.
How to Get to Hawai‘i
- By Air: I usually fly into Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) on O?ahu, but Maui (OGG), Big Island (KOA), and Kaua?i (LIH) also have major airports. Direct flights make it easy from many U.S. cities.
- By Inter-Island Flights: I’ve island-hopped with Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest—they run quick, frequent flights that make exploring multiple islands totally doable.
Where to Stay in Hawai‘i
- For Luxury: Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea – I splurged on a stay here once and felt like royalty. From infinity pools to oceanfront dining, it’s pure indulgence.
- For Families: Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort – I’ve traveled here with kids, and it’s a dream—pools, beach access, and everything you need in one spot.
- For Adventure Travelers: Volcano House (Big Island) – Staying inside the national park was surreal. Waking up to views of the crater made this one of my most unforgettable stays.
- For Budget Travelers: Hostelling International Waikiki – I’ve stayed here when I needed to keep things simple. It’s clean, social, and steps from the beach—you can’t beat the location for the price.
