Weekend Getaways for Couples

For me, weekend getaways for couples aren’t just about where you go. They’re about the unique experiences, the intimacy, and the favorite traditions you create along the way.

Weekend Getaways for Couples

Weekend getaways for couples are some of the most unique and memorable trips you can take. They’re easily among my favorite ways to relax, reconnect, and share special experiences together.

Whether you’re looking for a cozy mountain retreat, a vibrant city escape, or a quiet seaside town, the U.S. offers some of the best weekend destinations for romance.

From the beaches of California and Florida to the mountain towns of Colorado and Vermont, and from iconic cities like New York and Charleston to the underrated charm of places like Sedona and Savannah, the options for couples are as diverse as they are inspiring. Add in boutique hotels, scenic drives, and unforgettable sunsets, and it’s no wonder these escapes are among the best ways to spend a weekend.

What makes these trips so special is the variety. You can sip wine at a vineyard, hike scenic trails, stroll hand-in-hand through historic streets, or enjoy the underrated charm of small towns filled with cozy inns and great dining. Each getaway feels unique, giving couples endless opportunities to create new favorite memories together.

Best Weekend Getaways for Couples:

Walk along the Napa River and savor wine-country charm on a romantic weekend.
River Terrace Inn

Riverside calm at River Terrace Inn in Napa

We drove about an hour north from San Francisco to Napa, where vineyard-covered hills and winding roads led me into California’s wine country.

River Terrace Inn brought us right to the edge of the Napa River, close enough to feel the stillness ripple through us.

River Terrace Inn in Napa is one of my favorite underrated escapes in Wine Country—perfect for a romantic getaway or a relaxing retreat with friends or family. This boutique-style retreat strikes the ideal balance between serene riverside charm and lively downtown convenience.

What captivates me most is the setting. Nestled along the Napa River and adjacent to a peaceful nature preserve, the inn offers a tranquil vibe—yet you're only a leisurely stroll away from the buzz of Oxbow Public Market, the Napa Valley Wine Train, Copia, and downtown's wine bars and shops.

The ambiance is casual luxury at its best. Think tasteful, earthy décor, tree-lined river paths, and cozy outdoor fire pits—not to mention the inviting riverfront terrace where I love sipping a glass of wine while soaking in the views.

Rooms are well-appointed and thoughtfully designed—spacious, comfortable, and for some with private balconies, whirlpool tubs, or riverview verandas. Hello, perfect evening unwind.

The in-house restaurant, ALBA Bar + Café, is another reason I adore staying here. It serves seasonal, shareable dishes paired with local wine or cocktails, and the ambiance—especially on the riverfront patio—is effortlessly romantic.

Some of my favorite extras: complimentary bike rentals, live music evenings, fitness center access, and even a thoughtful “go green” approach with Tesla charging stations—little touches that make a stay feel elevated.

For me, River Terrace Inn is a hidden gem in Napa Valley—a place where nature, thoughtful design, and convenience come together with charm and genuine warmth. Whether you're toasting a special occasion or seeking a weekend reset, it’s a place that always lingers in memory.

Soak in mineral pools and relax deeply on a peaceful retirement retreat.
Two Bunch Palms

Wellness and warmth at Two Bunch Palms, Desert Hot Springs

I drove about 20 minutes north from Palm Springs to Desert Hot Springs, a quiet desert town known for its natural mineral springs. The road carried me into wide-open desert views framed by distant mountains.

At Two Bunch Palms, the silence was part of the experience. This desert oasis is built around mineral springs that have been bubbling quietly for centuries.

Two Bunch Palms in Desert Hot Springs, California is one of my all-time favorite hidden wellness retreats—a serene and storied oasis that’s perfect for a peaceful, adults-only escape.

What makes it so special to me is the setting. The resort spans 77 lush acres of palm-shaded desert, tucked just north of Palm Springs. It feels like a secret sanctuary—gentle, restorative, and wonderfully removed from everyday hustle and bustle.

The real draw here is the mineral-rich hot springs. These naturally heated waters—flowing from sources layered with lithium, calcium, and magnesium—have long been celebrated for their therapeutic powers.

Soaking in the grotto pools or the teak tubs surrounded by palms feels like a moment of pure calm. History also seeps through the grounds.

The springs were sacred to the Cahuilla people long before the resort was founded in 1940. Over the decades, it’s developed a glamorous reputation—there’s even whispered lore that Al Capone used it as a hideaway.

Today, it balances that rich past with earthy elegance and modern comfort.

The resort itself has undergone thoughtful renovations, blending original charm with contemporary touches.

The accommodations range from vintage-styled grotto rooms to chic Solstice suites, and include tranquil villas set among gardens and desert groves.

Amenities are centered around wellness: spa treatment rooms, a yoga dome, movement classes, tennis courts, and more offer diverse ways to reset and rejuvenate.

I love that Two Bunch Palms isn’t flashy—it’s soulful. Whether I’m sipping wine by the firepits at dusk, relaxing in the silent grotto under the palms, or practicing yoga in the dome at sunrise, every moment here feels intentional and restorative.

To me, Two Bunch Palms isn’t just a destination—it’s a deeply rejuvenating experience. A romantic desert hideaway, a wellness sanctuary, and a timeless retreat—all in one unforgettable escape.

Winvian

Whimsy and wonder at Winvian Farm, Morris

I drove about two hours north from New York City into the Litchfield Hills.

Winvian was like stepping into a dream you didn’t know you needed. Each cottage has its own story, from a treehouse in the sky to a helicopter-turned-suite, and walking through the property felt like turning pages in a fairytale. It was imaginative, indulgent, and completely ours for the weekend.

Set across 113 acres of lush lawns, meadows, and woods, Winvian offers a sense of peaceful seclusion while still being just a couple of hours from New York City or Boston.

The estate centers around a historic 1775 manor and includes a luxurious Relais & Châteaux spa, a five-star farm-to-table restaurant, a pool tucked within a meadow, and bicycles outside each cottage door to roam the grounds at your leisure.

What I Loved Most: Our fireplace crackling as we sat in robes, sipping wine, the world outside forgotten and the weekend unfolding like magic.

My highlights? Dinner at the on-site restaurant was a revelation. I had the butter-poached lobster over fresh farm greens with champagne vinaigrette, followed by a chocolate souffle that left us both silent with joy.

Gale South Beach

Chic energy at Gale South Beach

We drove about 20 minutes east from downtown Miami to Miami Beach.

Gale South Beach ($171) pulsed with style, a blend of Art Deco glamour and intimate corners that made the city feel personal. Just steps from Collins Avenue, it was perfectly placed for a weekend that could go from sun-soaked to candlelit without ever getting in a car.

Gale South Beach is easily one of my favorite hidden gems in Miami. Tucked right in the heart of the iconic Collins Avenue, this boutique hotel feels like a perfect weekend getaway spot—romantic, yet still fun and family-friendly.

From the moment I walked in, I loved the blend of vintage Art Deco charm with a modern, stylish twist. The atmosphere felt both inviting and sophisticated, which to me is the best combination.

My spacious room had clean lines, dark wood accents, and plenty of natural light streaming through large windows.

I especially loved the cozy, cloud-like bed dressed in premium linens and the spa-style bathroom stocked with luxe amenities—it made the stay feel extra indulgent.

The rooftop pool was my favorite place to relax. With sweeping city and ocean views, it was the perfect spot to sip a cocktail, soak up the sun, or just unwind in between exploring South Beach.

The hotel also has a hidden courtyard and lounge areas that felt intimate and underrated—almost like my own private oasis in the middle of the action. Location-wise, Gale couldn’t be better.

I could walk to the beach in just minutes, or wander over to some of the best restaurants, shops, and nightlife that Miami has to offer. Yet, whenever I stepped back into the hotel, it felt like a calm retreat from the buzz outside.

For me, Gale South Beach is a true gem—romantic enough for a couple’s escape, but versatile enough for a stylish family stay. I can’t wait to return.

To book, check availability or prices for Gale South Beach.

The downside? It’s noisy for light sleepers. South Beach is an expensive destination even if you don't plan on signing up for tours and activities.

Ashland Springs Hotel

Golden-era romance at Ashland Springs Hotel

I drove about 15 minutes south from Medford to Ashland.

Ashland Springs Hotel felt like a love letter to a gentler era, polished brass, velvet seating, and windows that framed the Rogue Valley like a painting. There was something grounding about the space, something that made us slow down naturally.

Ashland Springs Hotel is one of my favorite historic gems in Southern Oregon, and it’s the kind of place that makes a weekend getaway feel truly special.

Originally built in 1925, the hotel has been beautifully restored, keeping its vintage charm while adding modern comforts that make it perfect for both romantic escapes and family trips.

The lobby instantly won me over—it feels like stepping into another era, with soaring ceilings, chandeliers, and elegant old-world details that create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

I loved that sense of timelessness, and yet everything felt fresh and well cared for. My guest room was cozy and thoughtfully designed, with plush bedding, antique-inspired furnishings, and large windows that looked out over downtown Ashland and the surrounding mountains.

It wasn’t flashy, but it had that inviting, boutique vibe that made me feel right at home. One of my favorite parts of staying here was the location.

The hotel sits right in the heart of Ashland, so I could easily walk to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival theaters, charming boutiques, and some of the best local restaurants.

After a full day of exploring, it was such a treat to unwind back at the hotel, whether in the cozy library, the spa, or at Larks Home Kitchen Cuisine—the onsite restaurant known for seasonal, farm-to-table dishes.

To me, Ashland Springs Hotel is an underrated destination—it combines history, character, and comfort in a way that feels both relaxing and inspiring. For a romantic weekend or a memorable family getaway, it’s one of the best choices in Ashland.

Golf by the ocean and swim with kids on a fun family trip.
Hammock Beach Resort

Oceanfront bliss at Hammock Beach Resort, Palm Coast

I drove about 30 minutes south from St. Augustine along the coast to Palm Coast, a quieter stretch of Florida shoreline framed by dunes and palm trees.

Hammock Beach Resort gave us a view we couldn’t turn away from, the Atlantic rolling in with rhythm and roar, framed by palms and pink-tinged sky.

Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast is perfect for both romantic retreats and fun-filled family escapes. Nestled on a stretch of unspoiled Atlantic coastline, this resort immediately feels like a hidden haven for relaxation and adventure.

What I loved most about this resort is how it blends quiet luxury with a lively, resort-style vibe.

My favorite indulgence was lounging by the massive water park area, boasting five sparkling pools, a lazy river, water slides, and even an indoor pool for when you crave a break from the sunshine.

Whether I was drifting along the lazy river or soaking up the sun on the private beach, every moment felt inviting. I’m also a big fan of their championship golf experience—two courses designed by legends Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, both set against breathtaking ocean backdrops.

And when I needed a serene recharge, the full-service spa and fitness center were a treat—perfect for winding down after a fun-filled day.

The rooms are spacious suites and villas with ocean-view balconies that made for dreamy mornings and cozy evenings. I loved that some suites even felt like a home away from home, complete with living areas and kitchenettes—luxury with comfort combined.

Dining was also a highlight, with a great mix of options—from upscale spots like the Atlantic Grille to casual bites poolside.

All in all, Hammock Beach Resort is my favorite choice when I want both luxury and family-friendly fun wrapped into one. Whether it’s a romantic weekend or a memorable family escape, this resort is a true gem I can’t wait to return to.

La Jolla Hotel

Seaside serenity at La Jolla Hotel and Spa

I drove about 20 minutes north from downtown San Diego to La Jolla.

In La Jolla, everything slows, the waves, the wind, even the way you speak to each other. La Jolla Hotel & Spa was perched just right, giving us a view of sea cliffs and surfers, with soft sea air drifting in through the open windows.

La Jolla Hotel and Spa is a perfect blend of coastal elegance and relaxed luxury that makes for an unforgettable weekend getaway.

Tucked along the cliffs overlooking the Pacific, it feels like both a romantic retreat and a family-friendly escape, depending on the kind of stay you’re looking for.

From the moment I arrived, I loved the breezy, coastal-inspired décor—light tones, natural textures, and big windows that let the ocean views take center stage.

My room was spacious, with a plush bed, a spa-style bathroom, and a private balcony where I could sip my morning coffee while watching the waves roll in.

That balcony quickly became my favorite spot—it felt like my own hidden gem.

The spa is truly the heart of the hotel, and I couldn’t resist spending an afternoon there.

With treatments inspired by the sea, serene lounges, and even outdoor spaces where you can relax post-treatment, it felt indulgent and restorative. For me, it was the best way to recharge.

I also loved how close the hotel was to everything La Jolla has to offer. I could stroll to the village for shopping and dining, explore the famous La Jolla Cove, or simply enjoy the beach just steps away.

Back at the hotel, the poolside vibe was equally inviting, with cocktails and light bites served under the California sun.

If You Dream of Sleeping in a Castle, Stay at Kilkea Castle in Ireland
Kilkea Castle

If You Dream of Sleeping in a Castle, Stay at Kilkea Castle in Ireland

We drove about an hour southwest from Dublin into County Kildare.

The halls of Kilkea Castle echoed with history. Ivy climbed the stone walls outside, and candlelight flickered in medieval sconces

Tucked away in County Kildare, just about an hour from Dublin, this 12th-century castle has been transformed into a luxurious hotel and spa that’s perfect for a romantic weekend or even a memorable family getaway.

What I loved most was how Kilkea Castle combines history with modern comfort.

Inside, though, the guest rooms are spacious, stylish, and cozy, with plush beds, elegant décor, and all the modern amenities you’d want.

My favorite part was waking up to views of the rolling Irish countryside, which felt both peaceful and magical.

The castle grounds are equally impressive. I could wander the woodlands, explore the gardens, or simply relax by the fire in one of the elegant lounges.

For more activity, there’s an 18-hole championship golf course, horse riding, falconry, and even archery—making it an underrated destination for families who love adventure.

Kata Rocks Resort and Residences
Kata Rocks Resort and Residences

Kata Rocks Resort and Residences

I drove about an hour south from Phuket International Airport along winding coastal roads to Kata Rocks, a sleek resort perched above the Andaman Sea.

“Is this real?” I whispered as I stepped onto our private infinity pool deck at Kata Rocks Resort, the Andaman Sea glowing pink in the distance. The villa smelled faintly of lemongrass and jasmine, and every surface was cool and smooth beneath my fingers. It felt like we were floating.

Kata Rocks Resort and Residences in Phuket is one of my favorite luxury escapes in Thailand, an underrated gem that blends sleek, modern design with breathtaking ocean views.

I found it to be the best way to recharge after a day in the sun. For dining, the resort’s restaurant stood out, serving a mix of Thai and Mediterranean-inspired dishes with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients.

Sipping cocktails at the bar while the sky turned pink was easily one of my favorite moments of the trip. I also loved how private and exclusive the resort felt, yet it was only minutes away from Kata Beach’s lively scene. That balance of seclusion and convenience made it perfect.
