The Chautauqua Institution is a not-for-profit community on Chautauqua Lake in southwestern New York State where approximately 7,500 persons are in residence on any day during a nine-week season to learn and explore. The Spencer Hotel is in the heart of the Chautauqua Institution and provides guests with the opportunity to experience a uniquely literary themed hotel.

All rooms are dedicated to authors, and local artists decorated each guestroom to honor the lives and works of the author. The rooms include a select library of the author's work. The Spencer Hotel also offers common areas for playing a board game, curling up with a good book, or engaging in conversation.
