The John Ripley Forbes Big Trees Forest Preserve lies only around four miles outside of the main part of Sandy Springs. This thirty-acre wildlife, plant, and tree sanctuary is a unique natural area just waiting to be explored. Open Sunday to Saturday, from sunrise to sunset, visitors can wander this smoke-free environment to their heart’s content, and also bring the dogs along, provided they remain leashed. The Big Trees Forest Preserve is a result of John Ripley Forbes’s work in conservation and was established to preserve the urban forestlands areas in the Sandy Springs region of Georgia.
