Craving sunshine, theme parks, and laid-back lakeside fun? I’ve found Winter Haven to be the perfect place for all of that and more. Tucked into Central Florida’s Chain of Lakes, it’s where I go when I want family time, water adventures, or just a peaceful stroll through gardens. You’ll love how close it is to LEGOLAND—just minutes away! Whether you’re boating on calm waters or playing with the kids, I think Winter Haven has something you’ll want to come back for.

Winter Haven, FL Highlights (My Must-Dos for You):

  • When I travel with family, LEGOLAND Florida Resort is our first stop – You’ll love the rides, water slides, and themed shows. I’ve watched kids and grown-ups light up at every turn—it’s not just for the little ones!
  • If you enjoy the outdoors like I do, exploring the Chain of Lakes is a must – I’ve kayaked and fished here, and there’s something magical about boating through those connected lakes. You’ll want to bring your camera, trust me.
  • For younger kids, the Florida Children’s Museum in nearby Lakeland is a gem – I’ve taken little ones there for a couple hours of creative play and hands-on exhibits. You’ll be amazed how engaged they stay.
  • Feeling adventurous? I tried wakeboarding at Lake Eloise—it was a blast! – You can rent paddleboards too, or go out with a guide. I think you’ll love how easy it is to jump into the action.
  • Want something more peaceful? I always recommend Bok Tower Gardens – Just a short drive away, and you’ll be surrounded by lush greenery, unique architecture, and the soothing sound of that carillon tower. You’ll feel transported.

When I’d Tell You to Visit Winter Haven

If you ask me, October through April is the sweet spot. I’ve enjoyed mild days and blue skies—perfect for lakes and theme parks. You’ll find fewer crowds and ideal weather. Summer does get hot and humid, but I’ve still had a great time cooling off on the water and catching local festivals. If you're into splashy fun, it’s worth it.

How I Get to Winter Haven (And How You Can Too)

  • Driving in? I usually take US-17 or State Road 540—it’s about an hour from both Orlando and Tampa. You’ll find the drive easy and scenic, especially if you’re coming from either airport.
  • Flying? I’ve flown into Orlando International (MCO) and Tampa International (TPA)—both are super convenient and just about an hour out. You’ll have rental car options either way.
  • By train? I once tried Amtrak’s Silver Star—it stops right downtown! If you like a relaxed arrival, that’s a fun alternative. You might want a car afterward to explore more easily, though.

Where I’ve Stayed (And Where You Might Want To)

  • LEGOLAND Hotel – I stayed here with family, and the themed rooms were a hit—pirates and castles, what more could you ask for? You’ll appreciate the entertainment and easy access to the park.
  • Hampton Inn Winter Haven – For something simple and convenient, this is where I go. You get breakfast, a pool, and it’s close to everything. You’ll be comfortable and well-fed.
  • Camp Margaritaville RV Resort & Cabins – If you’re up for something unique, I loved glamping here. You’ll get pools, lake views, and that laid-back Margaritaville vibe that just makes you want to kick back with a cold drink.
