Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument stands as a memorial for the Battle of Little Bighorn, one of the most famous battles in American history that took place at the site. The monument memorializes the U.S. Army's 7th Cavalry under the leadership of General Custer and the Sioux and Cheyenne tribes in one of the Indian's last armed efforts to preserve their traditional way of life. Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument is also home to the Custer National Cemetery, where thousands of soldiers who fell in the battle rest in eternity, as well as the site of military action led by Frederick Benteen and Marcus Reno. Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument is open year-round.
