Built sometime between 1895 and 1904, the Rhode Island State House is known for being of the country’s grandest and most beautifully designed state capitol houses.

It stands out majestically in Providence’s skyline thanks to its gorgeous domed building and its white Georgia marble façade. The building was designed by McKim, Mead, and White, the same firm behind the Boston Public Library, and attributes its beauty to the fact that it was built when the state was at its peak of industrial prosperity.

Visitors to the museum can explore its gorgeous architecture, take a guided tour, and see the Colonial Charter of 1663 granted by England’s King Charles II. Don’t forget to snap a photo of the Independent Man statue that sits atop the building’s dome.
