The National Museum of the Marine Corps attracts over 500,000 visitors a year and is one of the top tourist attractions in the state.

Since its opening in 2006, the museum has expanded to include exhibits on modern Marine Corps history as well.

The museum has various visiting exhibits throughout the year, but some of the permanent exhibits that visitors will enjoy include the Legacy Walk, Making Marines, Defending a New Nation (which focuses on events from 1775 to 1865), and the dedicated exhibits to World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

The museum is one part of a more complex Marine Corps Heritage Center; the 135-acre campus comprises a memorial park, a chapel, parade grounds, hiking trails, a rifle range laser simulator, a classroom, and other facilities.
