If you’re dreaming of mountain adventures mixed with hot springs and a little Western flair, I always say—head to Steamboat Springs. This Rocky Mountain resort town has been on my radar for years, and every time I go, I’m reminded why. You’ll feel that laid-back cowboy spirit the second you roll into town. Whether I’m skiing fresh powder or you’re soaking in the natural springs after a hike, Steamboat is the kind of place that keeps calling you back.

Best Time to Visit

When I’m planning a winter getaway, I always aim for December to March—the skiing and snowboarding are top-notch. You’ll love the Champagne Powder® snow if you’re into the slopes. If you’re more into hiking, biking, or festivals like I am in the summer, then June through September is your sweet spot. You’ll be surrounded by wildflowers, music, and that fresh mountain air.

How to Get There

  • By Air: I usually fly into Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN)—it’s just 30 minutes from downtown. You’ll find seasonal direct flights from several major cities, which makes it super easy to reach.
  • By Car: I’ve done the 3.5-hour drive from Denver more than once. You’ll follow I-70 and US-40, and honestly, the mountain views make the time fly. You’ll want to stop for photos along the way.
  • By Shuttle: When I don’t feel like driving, I book a shuttle from Denver International Airport. You’ll get dropped off right in town without the stress of mountain driving.

Where to Stay

  • Steamboat Grand – I stayed here on a ski trip and loved the slopeside convenience. You’ll get a spa, restaurants, and family-friendly touches that make it easy to settle in.
  • Rabbit Ears Motel – This spot is iconic and budget-friendly. I’ve stayed here for a quick weekend—it’s right across from the hot springs, and you’ll love the retro sign and unbeatable location.
  • Moving Mountains Vacation Rentals – I’ve rented one of their homes for a group trip, and it was perfect. You’ll find spacious, luxurious spots with everything you need to feel right at home after a day of adventure.
