If you’re looking for a city escape that mixes shopping, food, and outdoor fun, I always say—check out Plano, Texas. I’ve spent time exploring this vibrant spot just outside Dallas, and it has that perfect balance of big-city energy and suburban ease. Whether you’re strolling through historic downtown, hopping between restaurants at Legacy West, or relaxing in a leafy park, you’ll find plenty to love here, especially if you’re like me and enjoy variety in one trip.
Best Time to Visit
I like visiting in spring (March–May) or fall (September–November) when the weather is mild and the events calendar is buzzing. You’ll catch festivals, live music, and patio dining in full swing. I’ve wandered outdoor markets and trails this time of year and it’s just a great vibe all around.
How to Get There
- If you are traveling by car: I usually drive in from Dallas—Plano’s only about 20 miles north, and it’s an easy ride via U.S. 75 or the Dallas North Tollway. You’ll be there before you know it.
- By Air: I’ve flown into both Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW) and Dallas Love Field (DAL)—either gets you to Plano in 30 to 40 minutes by car, depending on traffic. You’ll have plenty of flight options.
- By Train: When I want to avoid driving, I hop on the DART Rail Red Line. It’s convenient and connects Plano with downtown Dallas and other nearby spots—you’ll like how easy it is to get around.
Where to Stay
- Renaissance Dallas at Plano Legacy West Hotel – I’ve stayed here when I wanted something upscale and walkable. You’ll love the rooftop pool and being in the heart of the Legacy West scene—it’s stylish and super convenient.
- NYLO Dallas Plano Hotel, Tapestry Collection by Hilton – I recommend this one if you’re into unique, artsy spaces. You’ll get a fun industrial vibe, cool décor, and a great hangout atmosphere.
- Cambria Hotel Plano-Frisco – This is a great all-around option, especially if you’re mixing business with leisure. I’ve stayed here for work trips and still had time to explore nearby shops and restaurants.
