Larimar is a fairly new addition to the gemstones and semi-precious stones of the world and is only found in the Dominican Republic. The gemstone is a calcium-sodium silicate or pectolite formed during the massive heat of volcanic eruptions and can be found in several colors, the most special of which is a clear azure blue, reminiscent of the brilliant waters that surround the island. You can learn all about the origins of the stone and how it is mined, polished, and turned into beautiful jewelry at the museum before visiting the shop to buy some wonderful souvenirs to take back home.
