Built in 1916 by the Army Corps of Engineers to protect Newport Harbor from storms, The Wedge is Newport Beach’s hottest spot for body surfers, surf boarders, and skimboarders. Featured in the cult classic film Endless Summer, the Wedge has been delivering waves up to 30 feet since its creation. The best months for big waves are during the summer and fall, but the Wedge Newport Beach offers picturesque sunsets all year round, a favorite for locals and tourists alike. On the website, it is possible to find information about hours, view current conditions through the “wedgecam,” and read up on potential hazards as well as safety tips and recommendations.
