Catania was named as one of Zagat's 15 Hottest New Restaurants Around the United States in 2015, located atop the top of La Jolla's beautiful newly-redesigned La Plaza Center. The restaurant is the vision of restaurateurs Ryan Johnston and Arturo Kassel of Whisknladle Hospitality, serving up delicious authentic Italian coastal cuisine in a dining space offering sweeping panoramic ocean views. Diners can enjoy a wide range of housemade pastas and pizzas crafted by executive chef Dustin Karagheusian, which are prepared on the restaurant's 5,000-pound wood-burning oven, Beatrice. Delicious entree selections including dishes like orecchiette with slow-braised duck ragu, served with porcini mushrooms, tomato coulis, and fresh-grated parmesan. Housemade desserts are crafted by pastry chef Jojo Rossi.
