Luna Mexican Kitchen is a bustling Mexican bar and eatery that serves creative, farm-fresh Mexican fare in a cozy atmosphere with outdoor patio seating. Owned by San Jose entrepreneurs Jo Lerma-Lopez and John Lopez, the eatery is housed in a beautifully restored vintage building on The Alameda that once housed the Mexican mainstay called Las Palmas for more than six decades. The new kid on the block, Luna Mexican Kitchen offers healthful, authentic menu of Mexican cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with signature dishes such as hand-pressed organic, non-GMO corn tortillas filled with organic chicken and heirloom beans from Napa specialist, Rancho Gordo. Specialties include grilled platters of meat, seafood and vegetables called Parrilladas, ranging from bacon-wrapped shrimp, carnitas, and adobo chicken to steak fajitas, shrimp, ribs and jalapeƱo sausage. There is also Cochinita Pibil, slow-roasted pork cooked in banana leaves; and Arroz Verde, green rice from house-made vegetable broth, poblano chiles and cilantro.
