Craving a peaceful escape with wine, gardens, and coastal mountain views? I say you should visit Saratoga! Tucked into the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, this charming little town gave me just the break I needed. I spent my days hiking scenic trails, sipping wine with vineyard views, and listening to live music under the redwoods—you’ll find a blend of elegance and nature here that’s hard to beat.

Best Time to Visit

If you’re planning your trip, I’d recommend going between May and October. That’s when I found the weather warm and dry—perfect for garden strolls and wine tastings. You’ll love how the town comes alive with outdoor concerts and events, especially in the summer months.

How to Get There

  • Driving in? I usually take Highway 9—Saratoga’s just 20 minutes from San Jose and about an hour from San Francisco. The drive alone is scenic and relaxing.
  • Flying? I fly into San Jose International (SJC), and from there, it’s only a 25-minute ride. You’ll be sipping wine not long after landing.
  • Using public transit? I’ve used Caltrain and the VTA Light Rail to get close, but I always recommend a car or rideshare to really explore. You’ll want the flexibility to reach wineries and trailheads.

Where to Stay

  • The Inn at Saratoga – I stayed here once and loved the peaceful creekside setting. You’ll appreciate the Victorian touches and how close it is to downtown.
  • Saratoga Oaks Lodge – This one’s nestled under oak trees right on the main strip. I liked walking to shops and restaurants—it felt like a retreat with convenience.
  • Hotel Los Gatos – If you want a little luxury, this place hits the spot. I relaxed by the pool, enjoyed the spa, and you’re just minutes from Saratoga’s charm and Los Gatos nightlife.
