If you’re anything like me, the moment you arrive in San Francisco, you’ll feel that familiar mix of excitement and curiosity. I’ve always believed there’s something undeniably special about this city. Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, I promise—you’ll always find something new. I’ve walked these hills, chased the fog, and tasted my way through the neighborhoods. From iconic sights like the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz to some of the best food I’ve ever had, you’ll never run out of reasons to fall in love with San Francisco.

San Francisco, CA Highlights:

  • For First-Time Visitors: Walk across the Golden Gate Bridge – I’ve done it more than once and it still gets me every time. You’ll get skyline views that stay with you.
  • For History Buffs: Tour Alcatraz Island – I’ve taken the audio tour and it’s haunting and fascinating. You’ll feel the stories come alive around you.
  • For Art & Culture: Visit SFMOMA – I always recommend this for its bold architecture and incredible modern art collection. If you love design, you’ll be inspired here.
  • For Foodies: Taste your way through the Ferry Building Marketplace – I never skip this stop. From fresh oysters to artisan chocolate, you’ll want to try everything like I do.
  • For Photo Lovers: Ride a historic cable car – It’s touristy, yes—but I still get a thrill each time. You’ll love snapping photos while hanging onto the side like I always do.

Best Time to Visit San Francisco, CA

I always say the fall (September–November) is the sweet spot—warm days, clear skies, and fewer crowds. If you visit in spring (March–May), you’ll see wildflowers and get a quieter vibe. I’ve been here in the summer too, and yes, it’s cool and foggy—so bring layers (trust me). Winter’s mild, and I actually enjoy the slower pace. It’s great for museums and cozy cafes when you’re dodging a bit of rain.

How to Get to San Francisco, CA

  • By Air: I usually fly into San Francisco International Airport (SFO), but you’ve also got options with Oakland (OAK) and San Jose (SJC)—I’ve used them all depending on where I’m staying.
  • By Car: I’ve driven in via US-101 and I-80, but fair warning: parking’s tight. You’ll probably want to use public transportation once you arrive—I usually hop on Muni or BART.
  • By Train: Amtrak gets you into the Bay Area, and you can easily transfer to BART. I’ve done this route before—it’s a laid-back way to get into the city without the stress of traffic.

Where to Stay in San Francisco, CA

  • For Classic Elegance: Fairmont San Francisco – I’ve stayed here when I wanted a bit of old-school glamour. You’ll feel like you’re stepping into a classic film, with sweeping views from Nob Hill.
  • For Waterfront Access: Hotel Zephyr (Fisherman’s Wharf) – I like this spot when I want to be close to the water and all the action. You’ll be within walking distance of seafood, sea lions, and the ferry to Alcatraz.
