Located in Charleston, South Carolina, on Charleston Harbor, South Carolina Aquarium was opened in 2000 and is home to over 10,000 animals and plants. The largest and most popular exhibit is the Great Ocean Tank, which occupies the first three floors of the aquarium. With over 385,000 US gallons of water, the aquarium is home to more than 700 animals.

The aquarium also has a touch tank, where guests are invited to touch Atlantic stingrays, horseshoe crabs, and other animals. Other animals housed in South Carolina Aquarium are North American river otters, alligators, loggerhead sea turtles, owls, great blue herons, lined seahorses, pufferfish, jellyfish, green moray eels, pythons, sea stars, and sharks.
