High Cotton Arts is a public creative arts center operated by the nonprofit Athens Art League organization, which strives to bring art education and cultural events to the Limestone County region. The downtown arts center offers studio space for local artists, along with art education opportunities for participants of all skill levels and art-themed public special events. Resident artists include oil painter Sonya Gordon, photographer Randall Lewter, stained glass artist Denise Maurer, and jewelry maker Tina Swindell. All artists are selected by a juried application process and receive 10-by-17-foot studio spaces within the center for a monthly fee. A student studio is also available for art students from local public and private school systems.
