The Boll Weevil Monument on Main Street in Enterprise, Alabama is the only monument dedicated to a destructive pest in the world. The monument is of a woman in Grecian robes measuring thirteen feet holding a giant Boll Weevil. While some would question why the town would want to honor a creature that destroyed countless fields of cotton, the truth is, the giant bug saved the Wiregrass region.
While other places tried to fight the pest, Enterprise and Coffee County decided to switch to growing peanuts to rid themselves of the problem. This made the region more prosperous than it ever was with cotton.
