Dreaming of beaches, lighthouses, and seafood shacks? I know the perfect spot—Cape Cod. Every time I visit, I fall in love all over again with the laid-back vibe and classic New England charm. You’ll find something in all 15 towns—whether you’re biking along coastal trails, watching whales breach in Provincetown, or just savoring clam chowder with an ocean view. Trust me, you’ll leave with salt in your hair and a smile on your face.

Cape Cod, MA Highlights:

  • For Families: Spend the day at Mayflower Beach – I’ve brought family here and it’s perfect. The soft sand, calm waters, and shallow tidal pools make it easy to relax while the kids play. You’ll appreciate how peaceful it feels.
  • For Outdoor Enthusiasts: Bike the Cape Cod Rail Trail – I’ve pedaled the 25-mile trail and loved how it winds through forests, towns, and salt marshes. You’ll feel the breeze and catch glimpses of wildlife the whole way.
  • For History Buffs: Visit the Pilgrim Monument, Provincetown Museum, and Nauset Lighthouse – I always make time for a little history. You can climb the monument for sweeping views or wander through exhibits before heading to Nauset Light—it’s iconic. You’ll feel the past all around you.
  • For an Adventure: Go whale watching in Provincetown – The first time I went, I spotted three whales within the first hour. If you’ve never done it, you’re in for a thrill. You’ll remember those sightings for years.
  • For Art Fans: Explore The Edward Gorey House – I stumbled upon this gem and found it wonderfully weird and creative. If you love quirky stories and illustrations, you’ll feel right at home here.

Best Time to Visit Cape Cod, MA

From my experience, you’ll enjoy Cape Cod the most from late May through early October. Summer is lively and perfect for beach lovers like me, but if you visit in early fall, you’ll still get great weather with fewer crowds. I’ve done both and loved the crisp air and golden leaves in September just as much as the sunny beach days in July.

How to Get to Cape Cod, MA

  • If you are traveling by car: I usually drive from Boston—it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on where you’re headed. Just give yourself extra time on summer weekends. You’ll appreciate the flexibility of having a car once you’re there.
  • By Bus: I’ve used Peter Pan and Plymouth & Brockton buses when I didn’t feel like driving. They’re a solid option if you’re coming from Boston or Providence. You’ll want to check the schedule in advance, though.
  • By Ferry: I once took the high-speed ferry from Boston to Provincetown—it was a fun, scenic ride and saved me some traffic. You’ll love the fresh air and skyline views on the way out.
  • By Air: I usually fly into Boston’s Logan Airport, but if you prefer something more local, Hyannis (HYA) has regional flights. You’ll want to rent a car either way so you can really explore.

  • Chatham Bars Inn – If you want to splurge a little, I’d say this is the place. I’ve dined here even when not staying—stunning views and a truly luxurious vibe. You’ll feel like royalty.
