Best Weekend Getaways in Central Texas / Hill Country
I live in Central Texas and absolutely love it here. I think that rolling hills, winding rivers, and charming small towns make Central Texas and the Hill Country an ideal escape for a weekend (or day trip!).
1. Miraval Austin Resort and Spa
I think it's one of the best spa weekend getaways in Texas for couples and singles. I love that this adults-only hotel offers the best balance of relaxation and rejuvenation.
First thing we did was drive just outside Austin, about 30 minutes away, to 220 acres of oak-dotted land, scenic trails, and panoramic views.
Check-in was smooth and welcoming, which set the tone for one of the best wellness experiences we’ve had in Texas.
The architecture and design felt unique and interesting, blending nature with modern luxury in a way that felt underrated.
After settling into our room, we explored the grounds, walking trails and gardens that felt like magic and a true escape.
Next we headed to our favorite experience, the spa for a 60-minute classical massage, which was easily the best part of the weekend for total relaxation. The treatments were amazing, and we both agreed it was one of the most peaceful moments we’ve shared.
Later that afternoon we joined a wellness class, which ended up being really grounding.
Dinner came next and and I especially loved the culinary experience, as fresh, healthy meals were crafted with local ingredients and paired with breathtaking lake views.
That evening we relaxed by the pool and watched the sunset, was very romantic.
Our room for two days with beautifully designed with a mix of rustic charm and modern elegance.
The next morning started slow with yoga and breakfast, making this weekend getaway feel refreshing.
Wellness activities were everywhere (yoga, equine therapy, challenge courses, and mindfulness workshops), each one designed to inspire balance and personal growth.
We spent the rest of the day unplugging, exploring more hidden corners of the property, and just enjoying being present together.

What I loved best:
My favorite highlight was starting the day with a guided hike at sunrise, followed by a nourishing breakfast that set the perfect tone for mindful exploration.
In addition, I loved floating in the infinity pool at sunrise with the hills glowing pink in the distance. It felt like the world had stopped just for me.
2. Creekhaven Inn, Wimberley
This is one of the most romantic and peaceful gems in the Texas Hill Country and it's one of our favorite places for a dreamy weekend escape.
Creekhaven Inn is situated right along Cypress Creek, and pulling up felt like discovering a hidden, underrated dream spot we had somehow never heard of before.
First thing we did was check in and explore the grounds, which was honestly one of the most joyful experiences because everything felt so peaceful. We explored the gardens, wooden bridges, and creekside paths.
Our uniquely styled room for wonderful two days had a cozy plush bed, romantic fireplace, whirlpool tub, and a private balcony. Waking up to the sound of birdsong and the gentle flow of the creek outside our window was pure magic!
Next we sat by the creek, coffee in hand, and just listened to the water flow which felt amazing and unusually calming.
Later that afternoon we walked into downtown Wimberley nearby, checking out local shops and cafes which made the day exciting.
Dinner back at the inn turned into our favorite moment, with soft lights, nature sounds, and that vibrant Texas sunset you can see in my photos.
The next morning we woke up early just to enjoy breakfast by the creek and it was easily the best start to the day.
We spent our last hours rocking on the porch, talking, laughing, and realizing this place is a spectacular hidden gem.

What I loved best:
I think that Creekhaven Inn is one of the best romantic weekend getaways in Texas. Why? First off, I thought the location couldn’t be better, just a short drive from Wimberley Square. In addition, we loved returning to our quiet oasis by the creek—it was the best of both worlds.
3. Archer Hotel Austin
Chris and I both absolutely love Archer Hotel Austin, and have been many times. I think this is easily one of the best spots for a stylish weekend getaway right in my hometown.
I love that it’s located in the Domain NORTHSIDE area, surrounded by some of Austin’s best shops, restaurants, and nightlife, a hidden gem close to so much to do.
The hotel itself feels chic and modern, with a touch of Texas personality that gives it an underrated charm compared to bigger chain hotels.
My favorite detail was the décor—cowhide rugs, local artwork, and rustic-modern accents that made the space feel uniquely Austin.
I found my room for two days spacious and luxurious, with plush bedding, walk-in showers, and floor-to-ceiling windows that made it my favorite kind of urban retreat.
I especially loved dining at Second Bar + Kitchen, the on-site restaurant, which served some of the best locally inspired dishes and cocktails in town.
I enjoyed having lots to do nearby, including just a short 20-minute drive to the Texas State Capitol, the Blanton Museum of Art, or the Bullock Texas State History Museum. For entertainment, explore the South Congress Avenue shopping district, catch live music on Rainey Street, or try the interactive art at Wonderspaces Austin.
Just a heads up though, if this is your first time in Austin, I recommend one of our local tours because there are so many different areas to see and the city is very spread out.

The rooftop pool was a highlight for me, offering a stylish spot to relax next to the pool, with skyline views and handcrafted cocktails at your fingertips.
4. Sage Hill Inn Above Onion Creek
This is one of my favorite hidden gems in Texas Hill Country, and it’s easily one of the best places for a romantic weekend getaway with my husband.
I love that it sits on 88 acres of rolling countryside just 40 minutes outside Austin, so we don't have to drive far.
This 4-star inn in Kyle is a truly underrated local gem. My favorite part was the outdoor hot tub and pool, where I could soak in the beauty of the Texas landscape while fully unwinding.
I found my room for two days very relaxing, with afireplace, soaking tub, and porch where we could de-compress from our stressful week.
For couples, this inn is one of the best choices—it’s quiet, intimate, and filled with spots to reconnect and relax together.
Families will also appreciate the spacious accommodations and wide-open grounds that are perfect for exploring and enjoying the outdoors.
The three-course dinner and hearty breakfast were some of my favorite highlights, as every dish was crafted with fresh, locally inspired ingredients.

Best Weekend Getaways in South Texas
I head to South Texas when I'm in the mood for rich culture, historic charm, and a warm-weather escape.
5. Hotel Valencia Riverwalk
This San Antonio hotel is one of my favorite boutique places to stay, and it’s easily one of the best choices for a weekend getaway in Texas.
I drove about 1.5 hours south from my home in Austin to San Antonio’s River Walk. I love that Hotel Valencia sits right on the famous Riverwalk, giving it a perfect location for both romantic strolls and fun family adventures.
The hotel feels like a hidden gem with its blend of modern luxury and old-world Spanish charm, which makes it feel both unique and underrated. It won Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice: In 2024, the property was the highest-ranking hotel in San Antonio, so you can trust that it's a quality place.
My favorite detail was the elegant courtyard with its flickering fire pits and fountain—it created such a romantic and cozy vibe at night.
I found my room for two days spacious and stylish, with plush bedding, warm colors, and a Juliet balcony overlooking the Riverwalk - made it my favorite feature of our stay.
The on-site restaurant and bar were highlights too, offering delicious dishes and handcrafted cocktails that made dining in just as fun as going out.
As a family, we appreciated the comfort, walkability, and easy access to San Antonio’s best attractions right outside the door.
I especially loved being able to walk everywhere while still having a peaceful retreat to return to at the end of the day.
While you’re in San Antonio, I highly recommend spending time along the River Walk. It’s one of the city’s most iconic features and a great place to wander, grab a drink, or sit down for a meal. From there, you can easily walk to the Alamo, which is smaller than many people expect but still incredibly powerful to visit in person. If you have extra time, heading to Market Square is a must—it’s full of local vendors, colorful shops, and some of the best Tex-Mex food in the city.
That said, San Antonio is more spread out than it looks on a map, and it’s easy to lose time hopping between attractions without really understanding what you’re seeing. On our first visit, we found that taking a guided tour helped us get oriented and make the most of our day. The San Antonio Hop-On Hop-Off Trolley Tour was my favorite because it gave us the flexibility we needed and was affordable.

My highlight was sitting on the terrace as riverboats drifted by, the ivy walls glowing gold in late sun.
A downside? I would have liked a swimming pool during our hot Texas summer.
Best Weekend Getaways in Central–East Texas
This area offers a refreshing mix of small-town charm, open countryside, and creative spirit—perfect for an easy weekend escape.
6. Flophouze Hotel - 1 hour and 20 minutes from Austin
I loved that this hotel is built from repurposed shipping containers, making it one of the best and most creative 48-hour weekend stays I’ve experienced in Texas.
I drove about 1.5 hours east from Austin to Round Top. With a population of just 90 people, it’s the tiniest town I’ve (ever!) visited, but its history runs deep.
The design is modern, quirky, and eco-friendly, giving it an underrated charm that stands out from traditional hotels.
My favorite detail was how my “houze” was decorated with salvaged wood, vintage finds, and art pieces, creating a cozy space with plenty of character.
I found the setting to be incredibly peaceful, with wide-open skies, hammocks, and fire pits that made it perfect for stargazing at night.
The kitchens in each houze made it easy to cook meals, and I loved that every space had its own unique personality.
I especially enjoyed the communal areas, including the pool and lounge spots, which gave it a laid-back, friendly atmosphere.

Best Weekend Getaways in North Texas
You'll find lots of small-town charm with scenic beauty and refined comfort in this Texas region.
7. The Inn on Lake Granbury
This was hands down one of my favorite romantic escapes in Texas. I love that it sits right on the water, where Chris and I have enjoyed stunning lake views, especially at sunrise and sunset which are magical.
My favorite part was the beautifully landscaped grounds with gardens, oak trees, and a saltwater pool that made me feel completely relaxed.

I especially loved the gourmet breakfasts each morning, with fresh and flavorful dishes that made waking up even more special.

The location was a highlight, since we were just a short walk from Granbury’s historic square filled with shops, dining, and entertainment.
Best Weekend Getaways in West Texas / Big Bend
This area is defined by dramatic landscapes, vast open skies, and a true sense of solitude.
8. The Summit at Big Bend
I thought that The Summit at Big Bend is one of the best weekend getaways in Texas. Why? From the moment I arrived, I felt surrounded by wide-open skies, endless mountains, and a sense of calm that was hard to put into words.
I loved waking up in my cozy desert casita and stepping outside to views that stretched as far as the eye could see. The sunsets painted the Chisos Mountains in soft pinks and oranges, and at night I could see more stars than I ever imagined—it felt like a private planetarium just for me.
I also enjoyed the thoughtful touches that made my stay comfortable. My room for three days had rustic-chic decor, warm lighting, and a bed that felt like a cloud after a long day outside. It was simple but intentional, blending perfectly with the desert landscape.

What I loved best:
I thought the stargazing here was absolutely spectacular, my favorite highlight. I laid back with a blanket and watched the Milky Way sweep across the sky, something I’ll never forget.
A downside? Keep in mind though that the most coveted rooms book out fast. In addition, wind can rise suddenly. Furthermore, the long drives between towns stretched farther than I expected after a full day outside.
Best Weekend Getaways in Southeast Texas / Houston Area
Southeast Texas offers an easy, refreshing escape with a mix of waterfront relaxation, historic charm, and resort-style comfort—all within close reach of Houston.
9. Margaritaville Lake Conroe
When we need a carefree weekend escape, my husband, son and I head to this place that feels like stepping right into Jimmy Buffett’s world of laid-back luxury and fun that I absolutely adored.
We drove about an hour from Houston to Lake Conroe and my favorite feature is the lakeside location. Being right on the water gives it a relaxed vibe.
I stayed in a spacious suite for two days with a private balcony overlooking Lake Conroe. Watching the sunset over the lake from my balcony was an experience in itself.
The resort offers a wide range of amenities that won me over. I started my day at the full-service spa while my husband played a round on the 18-hole championship golf course. You also get access to boat rentals and watersports on the lake, multiple pools including a lazy river, tennis courts, and family-friendly activities.
For lunch and dinner, dining options included a mix of casual and upscale spots that were always exciting, from LandShark Bar & Grill to fine dining with lake views. Evenings often featured live entertainment, trivia nights, and themed parties that kept the energy high.

What I loved best:
What I love most is that it feels like a tropical vacation without leaving Texas...laid-back, fun, and carefree, but still offering all the comfort and service of a luxury resort. It’s the perfect mix of relaxation and entertainment, making it one of my favorite destinations for a quick, feel-good getaway.
Best Weekend Getaways in Gulf Coast
Here you can look forward to relaxed beach vibes and rich Texas history.
10. The Tremont House - 1 hour from Houston
Chris and I love visiting Galveston and have spent weeks there since we moved to Texas. Located in Galveston, The Tremont House is one of my favorite historic beach weekend getaways in Texas!
What I love about visiting Galveston is that it’s an easy coastal getaway with plenty of character, history, and beach time packed into a single day. It’s relaxed but lively, and there’s more than enough to keep you busy without feeling rushed. I recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and getting an early start since Galveston has a lot to explore!
I love that it feels like a hidden gem, blending old-world charm with modern luxury in the heart of Galveston’s famed Strand Historic District that completely won me over.
Getting to Galveston is pretty straightforward if you’re coming from Houston. I suggest driving, since it takes about an hour depending on traffic and gives you the most flexibility once you arrive. While there are shuttle and bus options available, having a car makes it much easier to get between the beach, historic districts, and attractions. Once you’re on the island, everything feels close and manageable.
If you make the trip, I think you should check out the Strand Historic District and walk along the Seawall. The Strand is full of 19th-century buildings, quirky shops, museums, and great local restaurants, while the Seawall is perfect for a scenic stroll with views of the Gulf. You can also visit Moody Gardens, ride the attractions at Pleasure Pier, relax on the beach, or stop for fresh seafood and classic Texas treats along the way.
I’ll warn you that Galveston has more to it than people often expect, and it’s easy to wander around without really understanding its history. On our first visit, we found that taking a guided tour really helped us appreciate the island much more and made our time feel well spent.
Now back to The Tremont House...The hotel itself is an underrated treasure, with high ceilings, elegant décor, and a timeless atmosphere that makes every stay feel special.
I found my room for two days spacious and stylish, with classic furnishings and cozy touches that made it feel both romantic and relaxing.
When Chris and I traveled with our son, we loved the central location that makes exploring Galveston easy.
The on-site dining was another highlight, with delicious Southern-inspired cuisine that made every meal feel indulgent.

From vineyard tastings to hilltop hikes, I think these are the absolute best Texas weekend getaways because each of them brings its own rhythm. Plus, I love the chance to reset without rushing. These are the weekend places where time stretches, laughter lingers, and mornings start without alarms. However you like to unwind, there’s a weekend here waiting to welcome you back again and again.
