Sonoma, California is one of the top wine region getaways in the world, located just north of the city of San Francisco and home to over 400 acclaimed wineries. Most of the city's wineries can be explored as part of wine trail experiences or guided winery tours, offering samples, behind-the-scenes tours, and chances to take home a bottle or two for sharing between friends. Favorite wineries include chic Chateau St. Jean, housed within a gorgeous castle-inspired building, and the Valley of the Moon Winery at Madrone Estate, in operation for over a century and a half. Groups can learn more about the history of wine production in the region at the museum exhibits of Bartholomew Memorial Park, which highlight primitive winemaking and viticultural tools. Hip shopping districts include the city's Fourth Street, which is home to blocks of women's apparel boutiques, accessory stores, and art galleries.
