Olympia is one of the most significant archaeological sites in the country. Home to the first ancient Olympic Games, which consisted of members representing each Greek city-state in several athletic competitions.
The Ancient Stadium in Olympia provides visitors with the opportunity to imagine what it might have been like to observe or even participate in the original games. Near the stadium, the ancient Greeks constructed a sanctuary to Zeus. Other interesting sites include the palaestra and the workshop of Phedias and the Archaeological Museum.
