Review:
The Calanques National Park is a popular protected area in the heart of the Provence/Cote d’Azur region where you can go walking, hiking and bird watching. The trails are quite strenuous but are incredibly scenic, encompassing coastal massifs interspersed with calanques (these are very narrow, steep-walled inlets). As you make your way through the park you will encounter secret hidden swimming coves, plunging limestone cliffs and gentle nature trails. Although you will never be very far from civilization, you do need to take everything you need with you including plenty of sunscreen and drinking water. It is also possible to explore the calanques by boat, which is a good option if you are not into hiking.
