Hotel Espana originally opened in 1859 under the name Fonda de España. The structure, which is considered “a jewel of Catalonian modernism” was renovated and refurbished by modernist architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner. What guests see today is a gorgeous contemporary space that has state-of-the-art facilities for comfort with remnants of the original design for beauty. There are 82 spacious guest rooms, a solarium, and a open-air roof-top swimming pool that provides panoramic vistas of the Ciutat Vella. Guests will also have the opportunity to dine in the Fonda España restaurant, which is run by Michelin-starred chef Martin Berasategui.
