Most visitors arrive in Casablanca at the Mohammed V Airport. This is the country’s hub and is served by many international airlines as well as domestic airlines. The airport is located about 16 miles southeast of downtown Casablanca. Train lovers will be happy to discover the joys of arriving in Casablanca by train: there are five train stations in the city, but only two will be of use to visitors. Buses arrive in Casablanca every day from places all over Morocco including Fez, Rabat, Marrakech, Tangier, and Agadir among others. Driving by car into Casablanca can be a nightmare, so it’s better to skip renting a car if you can avoid it.

There are several ways to get from the Mohammed V Airport into downtown Casablanca. There is a train station located on level one in the arrivals area of Terminal 1. Trains depart from this airport station every hour: travel time is about 30 minutes and the fare is very reasonable. A bus company called CTM offers a bus service that takes approximately one hour from the airport to the center of Casablanca. There are also taxis which are located on level 0 of the arrivals area. Arranging in advance with your hotel for a pickup at the airport is one of the easiest ways, especially for first time visitors.

Casablanca offers several ways to see its attractions and to explore its restaurants and shops. It has an extensive system of bus routes: you can buy your tickets on the bus, but the buses can be quite crowded during rush hour, so plan your day accordingly. The bus signs are in Arabic so you might need a little help from the staff at your hotel. Another option is the Casa Tramway: this is a rapid transit tram system. For first time visitors, the old part of the city called the medina is a place that should be at the top of your shopping list. Here you’ll find the souks, or markets, where you can easily get lost but have a great time in the process. In the souks you’ll find spices, copper bowls, Moroccan carpets, leather products, handcrafted silver products, food, and clothes. Although these beautiful products are not made here and are imported from other parts of Morocco, this should not deter you from exploring the markets and picking up some very unique and special gifts and souvenirs.

Casablanca is a fairly large city so it is divided into various neighborhoods. The central district is the area that most tourists will be interested in exploring. In addition to the colorful souks, there are beautiful old Art Deco style buildings that will appeal to lovers of architecture. In this central district visitors will also see the United National Place, Mohammed V Square, and Mohammed V Boulevard.
