The National New York Central Railroad Museum is a museum in Elkhart, Indiana, that is dedicated to preserving, protecting, and interpreting the history of the New York Central Railroad. The town was an important railroad town with several railroad companies operating out of the town. The museum has a number of outdoor displays, including the largest surviving example of a NYC steam locomotive – New York Central 3001. There are also several other steam engines as well as diesel and electric trains. There are also a number of indoor exhibits that display artifacts from the history of the NYC railroad and other aspects of local and national railroad history and heritage.
