If you’re chasing Hill Country charm, cool swimming holes, and creative local vibes, I can’t recommend Wimberley, Texas enough. I first stopped by on a whim between Austin and San Antonio—and now I keep going back. You’ll find yourself wandering art galleries, floating down the river, or just watching a sunset that makes you feel like you’re in a painting. It’s that kind of place.

Best Time to Visit

From my experience, spring and fall are the golden months—March through May and September through November. You’ll see wildflowers blooming, the weather’s just right, and it’s not too crowded. I’ve braved the summer heat for a dip in the Blue Hole, and it was worth it—but be ready for those Texas temps. If you like things quieter (and a little festive), you might enjoy winter in town too.

How to Get There

  • By Car: I usually drive in via Ranch Road 12—it’s about 45 minutes from Austin or an hour from San Antonio. The ride’s scenic, especially as you get close.
  • By Air: I’ve flown into both Austin-Bergstrom (AUS) and San Antonio International (SAT), and they’re equally convenient. You’ll just want to rent a car from there—it makes exploring way easier.
  • By Bus: There’s no direct bus to Wimberley, but I’ve seen people shuttle in from Austin or San Marcos. If you're not driving, that combo can work just fine.

Where to Stay

  • Hotel Flora & Fauna – I stayed here once and loved the vibe. The suites have that mid-century style I didn’t know I needed, and you can walk to shops and restaurants in minutes.
  • Wimberley Inn – This is my go-to when I want something relaxed. You’ll feel tucked into the trees, and the pool’s a bonus after a day out.
  • Rustic Cabins & Hill Country Rentals – If you’re like me and love your own space, browsing Airbnb or Vrbo is worth it. I found a cabin with river access once and never wanted to leave.
