Battleship Texas State Historic Site
The Battleship Texas State Historic Site is open seven days a week, from 10:00am until 5:00pm, offering an opportunity to tour a historical ship that once served in both World War I and World War II. Situated in La Porte, around thirty minutes from Houston, this 573-foot vessel and historic site provides an array of programs and tours designed to showcase the awards for service of Texas in the Tampico Incident and both World Wars. The USS Texas Battleship was first launched in May of 1912 and took part in some of the twentieth century’s most significant naval battles.

San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site
Home to the USS Texas museum ship and the site of the Battle of San Jacinto, the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site was designated in 1960 as a National Historic Landmark and features the San Jacinto Monument as its main attraction. While exploring the historic site, visitors are able to take an elevator ride up to the observation deck of the San Jacinto Monument for a great view of the USS Texas, the Houston Ship Channel, and the city of Houston. The Battle of San Jacinto was the decisive battle that resulted in the independence of Texas from Mexico.
