Burnett Bayland Park was originally developed by Harris County in 1971, located on 67 acres of former orphanage land donated to the county by Joseph Meyer in 1912. Since 1996, it has been overseen as part of a joint city-county partnership with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, named in honor of orphanage owner Mary Burnett-Bayland.
