Port Aransas and Mustang Island are perfectly positioned in the central flyway to attract thousands of migrating birds of all kinds. Many species have decided that the island offers an ideal permanent home, so birders visiting the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center will have a wonderful opportunity to bird watch.
The center includes wetlands and marshes, accessed by a 700mt boardwalk and a shaded observation tower.
There is also a trail which leads along the shoreline from the end of the boardwalk to the southern perimeter of the center.
As you make your way you should be on the lookout for “boots”, the resident large alligator, as well as ducks, pelicans, waders and songbirds.
