Located in a historic former U.S. Post Office building in downtown Alvin, Texas, Alvin Historical Museum was established to record the history of Alvin. It has 21 permanent exhibits that showcase the development of Alvin from a small 1879 Santa Fe railroad loading site, until it became today’s diverse Gulf Coast community. The exhibits include Prehistoric, Indian, Railroad, Ranching, the Formation of Texas and Alvin, Farming, War and more. The museum is managed by the Alvin Museum Society, which has a goal to preserve and interpret the history of Alvin and surrounding area. Besides the Historical Museum, which showcases the collected artifacts and documents about Alvin’s history, the Society also maintains a beautifully restored 1910 Victorian style house which reflects the lifestyle of the area in the early 20th century.
