The Peabody Memphis hotel is one of Memphis' grandest, most legendary hotels. Located in the center of downtown Memphis, The Peabody is in close proximity to numerous attractions, like the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum, the Orpheum Theatre, the Memphis Cook Convention Center, and the Gibson Guitar Factory. The original Peabody hotel opened in 1869. The new Peabody Hotel was built in 1925, and it was renovated several times before it gained its present appearance. The Peabody is famous for the ducks in the lobby fountain. Some say that in the 1920s turtles and even baby alligators could be found swimming in the fountain.
