The Inn at Middleton Place is surrounded by the beautifully manicured Gardens of the Middleton Place estate, which were established in 1741 by Henry Middleton. Renowned for being the oldest gardens in America, the exquisite gardens reflect the grand classic style that was in fashion in Europe and England in the early 18th century. Following the design principles used for the gardens at the Palace of Versailles and Vaux-le-Vicomte, the gardens feature tree-lined allees (walkways), green arbors, small galleries, and pristine bowling greens. There are also magnificent sculptures and ornamental canals with surprises at every turn.
The House Museum tells the story of the families who made Middleton Place their home for over three centuries and features an extraordinary collection furniture, china, silver, original portraits, documents and other objects used by the family.
