Unlike many of the other wineries in the area, the Carolina Bauernhaus Brewery & Winery specializes in craft meads, ciders, and ales made using traditional Belgian-inspired techniques. The beer is brewed using wild-harvested yeasts, and many of the other ingredients are sourced locally as well, including the grains, the malt, and even the fruits used to flavor the brews. Anyone interested in sampling a few beers or a glass of mead is encouraged to visit the taphouse, which is located in downtown Anderson and often hosts tastings, live music, trivia nights, and other special events.

2. Carolina Vineyards Winery

Formerly located in the much smaller city of Chester, Carolina Vineyards Winery can now be found in North Myrtle Beach. The winery specializes in making fruit wines with produce grown in South Carolina, and it uses more than twenty different types of fruits to make its beverages. The wines range widely in sweetness; some contain 0% sugar for customers who prefer a drier beverage, while others have as much as 9% sugar to satisfy even the strongest sweet tooth. All wines are available for tasting, and the winery is open every day of the week.

3. Cartersville Country Winery

Nestled in the countryside near the city of Florence, Cartersville Country Winery makes all of its wine from muscadine grapes grown right on the property. The wines are South Carolinian through and through, and this is reflected in their names, which are taken from some of the owner's favorite locations in the area. Tastings and tours are available during opening ours and by appointment. Hours of operation vary according to the season, and visitors are encouraged to call in advance to ensure that the winery is going to be open when they want to stop by.

4. Cat's Paw Winery

Named in honor of the winery's resident cat, Cat's Paw Winery specializes in producing small batches of carefully crafted wines. Both red and white varieties are available, and they range from dry to sweet, ensuring there's something perfect for every palate. The tasting menu changes from month to month, and all wines can also be purchased by the bottle or by the glass. Tastings include a souvenir glass to take home. The space can also be rented out for private events.

5. Chattooga Belle Farm

Set on a 198-acre farm at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Chattooga Belle Farm is a working farm with its own distillery. The distillery is best known for its spirits, which include moonshine, brandy, and whiskey, but it also produces eight types of wine using fruit grown on the farm. All of the distillery's products can be purchased from the on-site store, which also sells canned foods, gifts, and other retail items. Tours and tastings are offered at the distillery on certain days, and the store is open seven days a week.

6. City Scape Winery

Owned and operated by a husband and wife team, City Scape Winery offers one-on-one wine-making classes in addition to producing excellent red, white, fruit, and dessert wines. Tastings provide the opportunity to try between ten and twelve wines, and they are held on Thursdays, Fridays, and weekends. For a small fee, guests can upgrade to a premium tasting, which includes a local cheese plate and a souvenir wine glass. Custom picnic baskets are available with at least 24 hours advance notice, and the winery also hosts occasional farm to table dinners, fundraisers, and other special events.

7. Cliffs At Keowee Vineyard

Sitting on the shores of Lake Keowee, the Cliffs At Keowee Vineyard is a luxury lakeside community dotted with stunning muscadine grape vineyards. The highlight of the community is its 18-hole golf course, which features eight holes overlooking the lake, but the community also offers an equestrian center, an elegant club house with an outdoor pizza kitchen, miles of hiking and equestrian trails, and a full-service marina with a swimming pool. A membership is required to access the community, and all memberships include access to the six other luxury communities at the Cliffs as well.

8. Coastal Carolina Winery

With locations in both Pawleys Island and Myrtle Beach, Coastal Carolina Winery is the perfect place to get a break from the heat before or after a day at the beach. The winery prides itself on offering an incredibly diverse selection of wines to ensure that there's truly something that everyone will enjoy, and visitors who stop by for a tasting can sample any seven wines they like. Three unique wine slushies are available to try as well, and guests can take home their souvenir wine glass for a small additional fee. Wine accessories and locally-made pottery are offered for sale as well.

9. Deep Water Vineyard

Situated on the sleepy, peaceful Wadmalaw Island, Deep Water Vineyard is a 48-acre vineyard and winery that produces and bottles all its wine on-site. The winery specializes in wine made from muscadine grapes, one of the only grapes native to America, but it also produces wine using grapes sourced from a vineyard in California. Wine tastings and self-guided tours of the vineyard are available Tuesday through Saturday, and live music and food can be found in the vineyard every Saturday afternoon. Visitors are also welcome to attend one of the winery's four annual events, which include an oyster roast and a grape stomp festival.

10. Duplin Winery

Established in 1975, Duplin Winery is one of the oldest wineries in the south. The winery's original location is in Rose Hill, North Carolina, but it also has a tasting room in North Myrtle Beach. The wine tasting allows visitors to sample up to ten wines of their choosing, and it comes with a selection of crackers and dips as well as with a souvenir wine glass. The tasting room is open every day of the week except for Sundays, as is the gift shop, which offers a selection of jellies, sauces, and other pantry items in addition to wine.
