When I needed a peaceful escape close to Portland—with wineries, gardens, and riverside charm—I found it in Wilsonville. You’ll love how easy it is to settle into the relaxed pace here. I wandered through blooming gardens, stopped at local tasting rooms, and spent quiet afternoons in parks that felt like hidden gems. Whether you're planning a family weekend or a couple’s getaway, Wilsonville gives you all the calm without straying far from the city.
Best Time to Visit
If you ask me, May to October is when Wilsonville really shines. I’ve been in late spring when the flowers were bursting, and again in the fall when the foliage turned the whole valley golden and red. You’ll enjoy warm days perfect for wine tasting, outdoor festivals, and garden walks. I always make time for a stop at a vineyard or two—it’s hard not to with the Willamette Valley right there.
How to Get There
- By Car: I usually drive in from Portland—it’s a quick 25 minutes down I-5. You’ll be surprised how fast the city fades into open skies and trees.
- By Air: If you’re flying in, Portland International Airport (PDX) is your best bet. I’ve grabbed a rental car and been in Wilsonville in under an hour.
- By Train/Transit: I’ve taken the WES commuter rail before—it links Wilsonville to Beaverton, where you can hop onto the MAX light rail. If you’re not in a rush, it’s a smooth and scenic way to travel.
Where to Stay
- Holiday Inn Portland I-5 South – I stayed here when I wanted something easy and reliable. The indoor pool was a great bonus, and getting on and off the highway was a breeze.
- Best Western Wilsonville Inn & Suites – If you’re looking for comfort close to restaurants and shops, this is a solid pick. I appreciated the free breakfast and relaxed vibe.
- Hilton Garden Inn Wilsonville – For a bit more style, I’ve booked a room here. You’ll enjoy the on-site dining and quick access to local attractions—it’s great if you want everything in one spot.
